Four Cardiff golfers are preparing for a 100-hole challenge in support of Cancer Research Wales.

Chris Thomas, Mike Mayer, Alex Mathews and Craig Campbell aim to achieve the feat at Ridgeway Golf Club on 21 June, walking over 16 miles in the process.

All donations will go to a charity chosen by Club Captain Steve Williams, but the entire day will be a race against time.

Craig, a Millennium Stadium Stadium groundsman and golf-lover, said: "If we can go round in 998 minutes and play to our handicaps for the whole day this would equate to 1,726 shots in total or one shot every 34 seconds!

"While some may think this is crazy, we're all getting stuck into training and looking forward to raising significant funds for Cancer Research Wales."

With around 16 hours of daylight in which to complete the challenge, Craig recently treated his teammates to a tour of the stadium's grounds with the hope of inspiring them in their own sporting endeavour.

In the event they don't quite finish in time, captain Steve has called for some luminous golf balls and torches to ensure the day is a success.
