Clays golf club in Wrexham is offering 365 children the chance to get free membership, plus an opportunity to go to the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor.
The North Wales club is taking part in one of the biggest single schemes in Golf Awareness Week which is backed by golf’s governing body, The R&A.
The week is being run by Golf Development Wales, part of the Golf Union of Wales, under the slogan ‘Pick it up for the Ryder Cup‘.
Clays has been running the Golf Roots Festival for two years, something which won them the Critchley Award from the Golf Foundation.
Now as part of Golf Awareness Week they are offering 18 schools in the area 20 free memberships each for the par three course, plus five extra through the scheme – a massive giveaway of 365 memberships.
They are also inviting the schools to take part in a skills challenge – the winners of that will get to go to one of the practice days at the Ryder Cup.
On top of that the club are offering two tee times every day of that week for free, to encourage nomadic golfers who are not members of a club to try the facilities – with some attractive membership packages also on offer for anybody interested in joining the club.
