The Centenary Year celebrations of Northamptonshire County Golf Club continued in June as four of their golfers managed to play 100 holes in one day.
The feat had been done before but with foursomes and with buggies. Roy Martyniak, Mark Jennings, Phil Smith and Ian Wilson did it the hard way – they walked all the way and played medal for all 100 holes.
Phil managed something even more special too, he managed to play all 100 holes with the same ball.
The intrepid golfers set off just before 4am and at 9.45pm holed the last putt on the 18th green. There was a good crowd to welcome them back to the comfort of the Clubhouse and a well earned bottle of champagne to celebrate the fantastic achievement.
Their efforts have hugely enhanced the funds of the Captain’s Charity (Kids Stuff) and the Ladies’ Captain’s Charity (Cystic Fibrosis) and after their Herculean effort they were presented with cheques of £2,800 each for their respective charities – and when the final count up was made they had raised over £6,500.
