Hirsel Golf Club is holding an Open Day on September 11 in order to attract new members.

For £10 visitors can play a round at the course and view the club's facilities.

Once referred to as the 'Augusta of the North', Hirsel is a rural parkland course situated on the outskirts of Coldstream in the picturesque Scottish Borders.

A challenging par-70 of great natural beauty, and with breathtaking views over the Cheviot Hills, Hirsel is but one of a huge number of clubs to be suffering financially in this 'age of austerity'.

On top of the 18 holes, each visitor will be provided with a coffee and a bacon roll during his Open Day round.

During the day there will also be a short four-hole course, a small practice ground and a putting green for visitors to practice their skills on. A local PGA professional will be on hand to offer tips, too.

In conjunction with the Open Day, Hirsel will be offering reduced-rate membership to anyone interested in becoming a member of the club: for £350 new members will be able to join until December 31, 2011, which represents 15 months for the price of 12.

The club will also be offering excellent promotional rates to anyone aged 30 or under.

For more information about the Open Day, please contact the club secretary, Allan Rodger. Email to bookings@hirselgc.co.uk, or phone 01890 882678.
