Speed is the driving force behind the new Callaway XR driver, which it’s calling its fastest titanium driver ever
The new Callaway XR driver – part of a complete XR range also featuring XR irons and XR fairways and hybrids – has been designed with speed in mind, so features plenty of design traits to make it easier to swing quickly to boost ball speeds and distance.
These include a Speed Step Crown and an optimised aerodynamic head shape that are more drag efficient, and the R+Moto face that is 10 per cent lighter and thinner, which allowed Callaway to move spare mass where it could move the centre of gravity (CG) 17 per cent lower to add forgiveness.
Like in the Callaway X2 Hot driver it replaces, the OptiFit hosel returns, so you still get eight loft and lie configurations to help reduce unwanted hooks and slices for more accuracy and distance.
The 460cc head also features a classic black finish with an aid for easier alignment.
Callaway XR Pro driver
Callaway are also launching a Pro version of the XR driver, which will blend the distance technologies with low spin to deliver a power packed option for the better player.
The 440cc Callaway XR Pro will feature the same R+MOTO technology that repositions weight to boost ball speeds.
In this case the weight saved from the Forged Composite Crown is postioned to move the CG lower to reduce spin by 300rpm compared to the Callaway X2 Hot Pro driver.
The weight saved from the crown also helps create a more aerodynamic head for faster clubhead speeds, while the adjustable hosel offers eight loft and lie configurations so you can perfect your flight for more accuracy and distance.
The Callaway XR driver comes with the Project X LZ shaft as standard, is available in 9° and 10.5° lofts, and will retail at £279.
The Callaway XR Pro driver comes with the Project X LZ Pro shaft as standard, is available in 9° and 10.5° lofts, and will retail at £299.
