Moortown Golf Club is set to host a commemorative centenary event as it teams up with Benfield for two 100th birthday celebrations. The golf club celebrates the 100th birthday of its famous Gibraltar Hole and Benfield Ford will commemorate the launch of the Model T Ford which is now regarded as the first affordable car.

Together, Benfield and Moortown will be hosting Gibraltar Day , which is due to be held on the 1st October. The event will be a trip back in time for guests who will be asked to dress in outfits from 1908, the year the Gibraltar Hole was built and Benfield will be providing a vintage Model T Ford to display on the landmark tee.

Guests, who will include the Lord Mayor of Leeds, will also have the opportunity on the day to take part in the Gibraltar Challenge in which there is the chance to win a car for a hole in one or a luxury car for the weekend for the nearest to the pin. All proceeds will be donated to Martin House hospice for children.

Former Moortown Golf Club, President Victor Watson, says: Moortown Golf Club is steeped in golfing history which we re extremely proud of. The Club holds the reputation as one of the country s finest championship golf courses and was the host of The Ryder Cup in 1929. Gibraltar Day is an extremely important event for us as it acknowledges the world class design of the golf course and the Gibraltar Hole which is regarded as one of the best short holes in the UK.

We re delighted to have Benfield Ford as our sponsors; the company s involvement and contribution for the day will go a long way to helping us make it a day to remember.

Regional director of Benfield of Yorkshire, Paul Rogers adds: This year, Ford celebrates the centenary of the Model T Ford and we felt that this would be a fantastic opportunity to team up with such a well respected golf club as Moortown, which is also celebrating the 100th birthday of the Gibraltar Hole. Gibraltar Day recognises two very important moments in history and promises to be great day.
