Direct Golf UK Staff will take part in a 24-hour golf marathon to help raise money for their former employee Mark Howe, who is undergoing rehab therapy for pneumonia on the brain in the London Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability.
The Chairman, Managing Director, Directors and Managers of Direct Golf UK will tee off at 12 noon on May 4 and play continuous golf through the night until 12 noon on May 5 in a bid to raise funds for Mark's specialist communication computer.
Whilst managing Direct Golf's Edgware store, Mark developed a brain tumour. Although the tumour was removed, it went deeper than first thought, leading to meningitis and then pneumonia on the brain that spread to his lungs.
Mark is now in a wheelchair, and although he has memory and can speak, he is unable to produce any noise. He is working hard on this and some improvement is being made - this may come back fully over time.
A personal computer for Mark would allow him to talk and communicate through email, Facebook, internet and much more through the touch screen voice projecting software, giving him real quality communication with family, friends and old colleagues.
Mark's mother commented: "Without this equipment, my son wouldn't be able to communicate. It's his lifeline, it keeps his brain active and it makes him want to carry on living."
Please visit virginmoneygiving.com/team/directgolf3 to donate to Mark's crucial technology.
