Danielle Masters won the first GEMS Shootout at the Dyrham Park Country Club in Herts last week beating Rebecca Hudson, Michelle Smith, and local professional Marie Allen.

Organised by Golfing Events Management Services (GEMS) prior to the Cellcoms Cup Charity Golf Challenge, four invited professionals from the Ladies European Tour (LET) battled over nine holes for the title and £1,500 prize.

Every third hole one player was discarded and the best stroke play continued. Masters, who lost her tour card this season when injury prohibited her from competing in 2008, recently qualified in chiropody to finance returning to tour. "I almost cried when I won, I really wanted it," said Masters.

The GEMS shootout was the brain child of Wendy Dicks, ex tour professional from the LET. Dicks created Golfing Events Management Services several years ago in order to help the women's golf grow by staging corporate golf events with her colleagues from the European Tour.

"My goal is to stage several shootouts next year, extending the field to ten invited British players," said Dicks.

"We are looking for golf clubs and sponsors that would like to be part of the 2010 program so if there is anyone out there who would be prepared to help in this aim, please contact me at wendy@gemsgolf.co.uk"
