Scotland's Greg Mann wins the Boys under-18 category whilst England's Sam Storey took the under-16 category at the World Kids Golf Championship
Oceanico World Kids Golf Championship Wrap Up
The Oceânico World Kids Golf Championship concluded last week at the Amendoeira Golf Resort, Morgado da Lameira, Algarve, Portugal.
The final round saw a dramatic day on the links with no fewer than six nationalities claiming prizes.
Scotland’s Greg Mann was the big winner, taking the Boys Under-18 category after a final round 74 for a 223 winning total.
Hugo Teixeira (74–75–79=228) and Christiano Marcelo (75–76–79=230) finished in second and third place respectively.
France’s Manon Donche-Gay won the Girls Under-16 title with the low tournament total of 220 with rounds of 75, 71 and 74.
Fleur Vierhout from the Netherlands fired a final round 70 to claim the Nett prize.
Sam Storey won the boys under-16 category on the same score as Mann at 223.
Greig Mann and Sam Storey both held on to their overnight leads to top the leaderboards in the Boys Under-18 and Under-16 categories.
There was no shortage of drama in the younger age-groups, with both the Boys and Girls Under-12 categories being decided by countback.
Jamie Mann, with his 2.8 handicap, was the under 12 Gross champion and also had lowest score of the tournament (4-under) winning the gross individual category by 6 shots with rounds of 38-35-39 for a total of 112.
Davidas Razinkas’ brilliant final round of 46 points was enough for him to claim the Boys event, whilst home favourite, Sofia Barroso Sa of Portugal needed a last-9 hole countback to edge Germany’s Emilie Finckenstein after the pair both fired final rounds of 43 to tie on 127 points.
In the Boys Under-10 and Under-9 categories, Charlie McKinney and Sean Keeling held on for wire-to-wire victories, with incredible scores of 151 points for McKinney over the 54-hole event and 78 points for Keeling in the 27 hole event.
