Rising golf stars head to Nizels for the 11th Sir Henry Cooper Junior-Masters
This R&A Major Junior tournament will again attract top class Junior golfers from the UK and Europe
The event will take place at Nizels Golf Club, Hildenborough, Kent on 27-29th June 2008. The handicap ballot was applied this year at 0.4, so 72 players will compete for the coveted trophy over 2 days and 4 medal rounds. Last years winner, Tom Lewis, will be defending his title.
In addition, this year there will be a Nations Cup. There will be teams from all countries of the UK, as well as from Holland, Finland and Denmark. The trophy will be awarded to the team with the best 2 scores from 3 nominated players in the two Saturday rounds.
The event is very similar to the European Tour with corporate hospitality, caddies, ball spotters, rules marshals on the course and a computerised score board. The Junior-'Pro/Am' on Friday raises funds for the Sir Henry Cooper Masters Junior Charitable Trust, which awards bursaries to talented junior golfers. Many past champions and recipients of these bursaries are enjoying success in the professional game, including Zane Scotland and Oliver Fisher. Sir Henry will be participating in the Junior 'Pro/Am', and will present the trophy and prizes to the winners of the main tournament on the Sunday.
Over the 10 years 700 junior golfers have competed at Nizels, giving us the excitement of 'holes in one' and course records- currently this stands at 63. The tournament is well supported by club members and staff, who make the weekend a special event for all participants and visitors. The tournament hopes to raise more money for the trust this year, and uncover more rising stars of the game of golf.
