The inaugural Wirral Golf Classic was played under demanding conditions for competitors on 13-17 September 2010, with storm force gales testing the players to their limit.
The event, which was played over Caldy, Heswall, Royal Liverpool & Wallasey golf courses, attracted competitors from all over the UK as well as Europe and even the USA with a field of some 194 players teeing it up on the first day.
Eric Rosemena from Los Verdes GC, California, commented when he saw the weather – “I haven’t even played before in the rain – let alone this!”.
The event was won, unsurprisingly, by a local player, Dave Weedon from Mollington, who saw off a close challenge from Peter Loram from Birmingham and Charles Garside from the Isle of Man.
Despite the challenging conditions at times, many competitors said they would be back next year and would bring friends. So the scene is set for another successful event in 2011 – whatever the weather!
One entry has already been received for the 2011 event taking place 18-23 September over the same courses.
