Abacus Lighting has been awarded a prestigious £2.3m contract to light the new Nick Faldo course at the Emirates Golf Club in Dubai.   Dubai Golf, the company that owns and operates the course, enlisted the help of six-time Major winner Sir Nick Faldo to design the complete refurbishment of its new Wadi course.   Abacus' export sales director, John Anthony, said: "This is a fantastic contract win for Abacus and came as the result of some strong investigatory research and development on our part.

"Because of the close proximity of the golf course to residents with luxury villas, a high performance, low impact lighting scheme was essential.

"From our previous track record in Dubai and China, they knew that we were able to deliver such an effective light control solution and I think that's what swung it for us - excuse the pun!"   Scheduled for completion in spring 2010, the scheme will see Abacus install a total of 160 of its patented base-hinged lighting columns carrying a total of 500 floodlights which will enable play and practice to carry on throughout the evening, affording valuable additional extra revenue to the club.   A world leader in sports lighting, Abacus has already dominated golf course floodlighting in the Middle East and has installed its floodlights at nearly every course in Dubai.
