South African duo Charl Shwartzl and James Kingston fended off efforts from fellow European Tour stars Lee Westwood, David Howell, Darren Clarke and Rory McIlroy to claim victory in Oceanico’s All-Star Team Charity Shoot-out.

The players were given the opportunity to play three holes from each course at the recently opened 36-hole Amendoeira golf resort, with an 8,000 Euro prize for the winners’ charity.

Darren Clarke, whose banter with Lee Westwood kept moods high, said: “This was a great event for us to be involved in and to raise this amount money for charity is fantastic. It was a different format to what we are used to, but it was good fun and was no doubt entertaining for the crowds and the TV cameras.”

The Irish and South African teams took a two shot lead over the English after the first hole. However, as the players made it to the 18th green on the Faldo course, the South African’s had pulled away, eventually winning by two shots with a score of -3.

Gerry Fagan, director and shareholder of Oceanico, said: “This was the obvious time for us to launch the Amendoeira resort and it has been received fantastically by the players. The turnout has been truly amazing.”
