American Major winners Tom Watson, Tom Lehman and Mark O’Meara have confirmed their places in The 2009 Senior Open Championship at Sunningdale Golf Club on July 23-26, where they’ll be joining a strong field.

Five-time Open Champion Watson leads the American challenge as the most decorated player in the field, with eight Major championships and five Senior Major championships to his name.

The 59-year-old is aiming to continue his sequence of winning The Senior Open Championship in alternate years, having captured the title in 2003, 2005 and 2007.

He is also looking forward to competing against some of Europe’s all-time finest players, including Sir Nick Faldo,  Bernhard Langer, Sandy Lyle, Ian Woosnam and Australian Greg Norman.

“This year’s event promises to be among the most competitive Senior Open Championships played as the field appears stronger than ever,” said Watson.

Lehman won The Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes in 1996, and O’Meara claimed the Claret Jug at Royal Birkdale in 1998.

“Great Championships are played at venues with great tradition and Sunningdale is a perfect fit for this one,” said Lehman, who captained the 2006 US Ryder Cup team.   Where next?
