Annika Sorenstam, the greatest female golfer of all time, is celebrating her 42nd birthday today.
The Swede retired from professional golf at the end of 2008 season having amassed 89 career victories, the most of any female golfer in the history of the sport.
She won 72 official LPGA Tour tournaments between 1993 and 2008 – including ten major championships – earning over $22 million in the process – more than $8 million more than Australian Karrie Webb in second place.
She won eight Rolex Player of the Year awards, two European Player of the Year awards and the Patty Berg award for services to women’s golf in 2003, the same year she was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.
Since retiring, she has pursued her ANNIKA brand of businesses – including wine production, golf course design and apparel – written two books and focused her efforts on the ANNIKA Academy and ANNIKA charitable foundation.
