Anthony Kim was upstaged by Korean teenager Noh Seung-yul after round one of the Race to Dubai's Malaysian Open at Saujana Golf and Country Club's Palm Course.
Seventeen-year old Noh fired a sensational ten under par 62 to edge ahead of Sweden's Alexander Noren for the clubhouse lead, helped by a 45-foot putt for birdie on his opening hole.
But, world number 11 Kim fired a six over 78, and is tied with Thailand’s Somkiat Srisanga and Japan's Taichiro Kiyota in 148th place.
Having been disqualified in the season-opening HSBC Champions event in Shanghai last November, the American Ryder Cup star struggled throughout on the slow greens and got off to a disastrous start with bogeys at the first two holes.
Further dropped shots followed at the fifth and eighth and then
two more on the back nine to leave himself facing an uphill battle just
to make the cut. "It was very frustrating - a tough day at the office," admitted Kim.
