Battle the elements Ryder Cup style

British clothing manufacturer ProQuip has announced the release of a limited edition wet weather suit worn by Europe's victorious 2006 Ryder Cup team.

ProQuip are releasing a limited edition version of the wet weather suit worn by the victorious European Ryder Cup team of 2006.

The wet weather brand, that has been selected by more Ryder Cup captains than any other, has created 1,000 special commemorative suits in the same colours worn by the European?s at The K Club. The suit will feature the Ryder Cup logo, as well as the striking blue and gold arm stripes that featured so magnificently in Ireland. Those who buy a suit also receive a letter written and signed by European captain Ian Woosnam.

Woosnam, who worked alongside ProQuip in the creation of the Silk Touch suits, said: ?ProQuip played an essential part in Europe?s victory. Our team looked fantastic and felt fantastic in their Silk Touch rain suits, and were able to play their best golf no matter what the Irish weather threw at us."

"For ProQuip to develop a featherlight suit that is virtually silent to play in was a remarkable achievement and, in my opinion, the single most significant development in golf weather-wear for more than a decade. Being able to provide input into the design of the suits was wonderful."

The breakthrough fabric features an ultra-soft and virtually silent fabric on the outside, with a stretchable lining to help avoid interference with the swing. The outer layer is a tightly woven fabric, soft to the touch with silk-like properties so it does not bunch and create potentially off-putting noises.

ProQuip has also announced a new colour range for its 2007 Silk Touch jackets, aimed at suiting the tastes of every golfer. The traditional all-black remains available but red, royal blue and moss have been added to the spectrum. Meanwhile, for the fashion-conscious golfer, vibrant aqua and purple have been introduced to give the range a bit more flavour.

Richard Head, ProQuip managing director and chief designer, said: "Our

Silk Touch rain suit in European colours was an iconic symbol of the 2006 Ryder Cup, which is why we have produced this special, limited edition version."

The Silk Touch suits will cost around £239, while the special Ryder Cup commemorative suit will set you back around £300.
