Five rounds of golf is madness and so is the number of birdies that are made across the four courses in California. Birdies are like pars and if you make a par or worse, you may as well go home. Ok, it's not quite that bad but the key is greens in regulation and sound putting technique.
Matt Kuchar is the 10/1 favourite and he tied for second last year so that's fair enough. That said, there are so many players that can be a decent streak together that it makes betting hard.
Bubba Watson gets a little of our cash. He ranked tied second for greens in regulation here last year and he has come a long way since then. In truth, it's exciting enough watching Bubba without any money on him but we like the
25/1 given by Ladbrokes.
Our second selection is Jeff Overton who didn't exactly challenge here last year but he does chase the pins. He opened his 2011 account with a respectable top-20 finish in the Sony Open and he'll find enough greens to give him a chance this week. The question mark is whether he can hold out for that win, but we think it's due.
