Buick Open preview

With defending champion Tiger Woods withdrawing this week there is an opportunity for up and coming players to make their mark on the PGA Tour.

Furyk focused on this years title

Tournament: Buick Open

Course: Warwick Hills Golf & Country Club

Prize fund: $4,900,000

Course details: par 72, 7,127 yards. Placement is the name of the game around Warwick Hills. Miss the fairway or even get on the wrong side and the second shot could be almost impossible. If the fairway is hit the greens offer no easy putts. Severe undulations on many of the greens on the front nine force the player to play safe leaving the ball below the hole. Being too aggressive could end a players championship.

Key holes: Holes 10-14 will be the place to make a score. Missing out here on Sunday will almost certainly make the remaining holes too difficult. Birdies on the closing stretch will be few and far between.

The lowdown: Defending champion Tiger Woods is not present this week due to the birth of his baby girl Sam Alexis. Furyk (pictured) is the only player playing in the top-10 of the OWGR and will be looking to secure his second Buick Open title and first win of the year. The tournament has been around since 1958 and boasts an impressive list of winners including Woods and Vijay Singh

The contenders: Jim Furyk, Chris DiMarco and Fredrik Jacobson.
