Dubai Desert Classic golf betting guide

What a betting market we have this week for the Dubai Desert Classic! Even the bookies are no longer quite so scared of Tiger Woods and he's joint favourite at 5/1 with Martin Kaymer this week. A great weekend of golf is in store but how can you make a profit as well?

Tiger Woods & Lee Westwood

As one bookmaker tells us, "It matters more when there's money on it". This is one event where we'd happily sit back and enjoy the action without having a little flutter. With Martin Kaymer, Lee Westwood and Tiger Woods forming an exciting three-ball for the first two days, what more could you want?

Golf Monthly meets Tiger Woods in Dubai

Well, if you fancy a bet then the bookies say Westwood, although world number one, is not so fancied at 12s compared to Woods and Kaymer at 5s. That extra 7 points makes the world number one much more backable and you have to think he'll click at some point after some averge showings.

Backing Woods these days seems pointless. He seems to get off to average starts at best and it's hard to remember the last time he flew out the blocks. So you're better of backing him in play if you think he's got what it takes to play his way back into tournaments. For now, we think he's still a work-in-progress player. His swing looks more controlled but his short game looks average by his very high standards. At the moment it's not all clicking.

Alavro Quiros looked good in Qatar but he's not holing those putts and looks fragile at times which is frustrating given his power off the tee. We've gone for Sergio Garcia at 40/1 because we see the Spanaird sorting his game out at some point and there have been some encouraging signs in recent weeks. His form last year was woeful and it was tough to watch at times but after a break he's looked more like his old self and he'll relish the chance to remind us all of his talents during a week when so much attention with be on that 'dream three-ball'.

Aside from Garcia we see Thomas Aiken as a winner in waiting. The South African is a massive 66/1 despite being eighth in the Race to Dubai. Sure it's early days in that regard but his game is in good shape and he's more than capable of at least adding to his top-ten haul.
