Charley Hoffman claimed his fourth PGA Tour title at the Valero Texas Open at TPC San Antonio.
Charley Hoffman sealed the Valero Texas Open at TPC San Antonio for his fourth career PGA Tour title.
His three-under-par 69 was enough to beat Patrick Reed by a stroke.
The Californian had to dig deep in what was an up-and-down final round.
He bogeyed the third but bounced straight back with a birdie at four and followed that up with three further birdies.
One ahead of playing partner Patrick Reed after 16, Hoffman duffed his second into the short 17th when Reed was in close for birdie and it looked like his lead may have been surrendered.
However he made a fine two putt right from the front edge of the green and Reed then missed his birdie putt.
Reed then made a brilliant four at the last, leaving Hoffman with a tricky up-and-down from the back bunker to win.
He played a delicate shot to about eight feet and holed a clutch downhill left-to-right putt for the victory.
Hoffman has seemingly been in contention every week and the emotion poured out when the final putt went in.
Charley Hoffman's last victory came at the 2014 OHL Classic at Mayakoba.
He moves up to 18th in the FedEx Cup and will also move back into the world's top 50.
Luke Donald, Ricky Barnes and Brendan Steele were in the final group and none of them were able to mount a charge after poor starts to their round.
Donald shot a two-over 74 to finish T13th at seven-under par, Brendan Steele finished on the same total after a three-over 75 and Ricky Barnes' two-over 74 left him at nine-under-par in a tie for fourth.
Donald finished second last week at the RBC Heritage where he played in the final group just as he did at the Valero Texas Open.
His game looks to be getting back to its best and he'll take some pride from being disappointed with a T13th finish.
This week the PGA Tour heads to New Orleans for the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.Justin Rose defends the title he won last year to make it seven PGA Tour wins.
