It has been a while since we have seen Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson as the top two in the betting, the American pair having slipped down the Official Golf World Rankings. That said, they are still the two class acts in the field for the Farmers Insurance Open. Remember, you can claim your free £10 courtesy of Ladbrokes right here.
Woods is always likely to drift in the betting during play and if backing the 14-time Major winner is really your thing then you’d be better off doing so after a few holes, in play. According to his coach, Sean Foley, Woods is striking the ball better than ever on the range. Whether that is true or not, this event is a great chance for him to remind everyone he’s still the one to beat. The field may be quite strong, but Woods did finish well last year and there were signs his work with Foley was starting to come good on the course. The odds of 5/2 just don’t appeal, though.
Of the other big names in the field, Mickelson could be a little tired after his spell in Abu Dhabi and hasn’t looked his best for some time. Dustin Johnson, Nick Watney and Rickie Fowler are all quality players, but with Woods’ price of 5/2, there are some great each-way chances to be had elsewhere as a result.
We’ve gone for Kevin Na at 50/1. Na has had his moments on Sunday leaderboards without getting the job done on the PGA Tour but he’s a decent putter who makes his fair share of birdies and does not lack confidence. We’re hoping he might make the places for us.
Earlier this year we were also encouraged by Jusin Rose’s form and even though we think 25/1 is a touch skinny, he’s a proven PGA Tour winner. We’ve backed Rose already this season and will do so again this week. He looks like he’s enjoying his golf right now and when he does he really can streak some low rounds together, as we saw last year.
