Niclas Fasth became the BMW International Open Champion despite a spirited fight from Bernhard Langer.

Langer shot a superb 67 on the final day to putt the pressure on Fasth who showed his nerves with a double bogey at the tenth. Forty-nine-year-old Langer ? who had almost pulled out of the event early in the week due a bad back ? holed some monster putts to close in on Fasth.

The Swede looked comfortable on the front nine as he amassed a three-shot lead but his double bogey brought Langer and José-Filipe Lima back into contention. Fasth showed his class however with a birdie at 11 and another at 17. This gave Fasth a two-shot lead with one hole to play and he made par to secure his fifth European Tour victory.

“All in all I played some amazing golf, I?ve improved some things for this year and the biggest difference is that I now have huge confidence in my Callaway driver where before I didn?t hit enough fairways,? said Fasth who wins ?333,330.

Lima had shared the lead with Fasth going into the final round but struggled early on Sunday. The 24-year-old made a brave birdie at 18 to tie for second with Langer.
