Furyk wins Canadian Open

A hole-in-one and six birdies helped Jim Furyk to retain the Canadian Open by a shot from Vijay Singh.

A bogey on the final hole could not prevent Jim Furyk from retaining the Canadian Open after a superb final round of 64 at Angus Glen GC.

The American came flying out of the blocks on the last day with two birdies in his first three holes. He then holed his tee shot at the par-3 209-yard 4th.

Overnight leader Vijay Singh put in a late charge to finish with a 68 that included four birdies on the back nine. The world number seven had held a one-shot lead going into the final round but was overtaken after Furyk?s early blitz.

Furyk stuttered at the 18th, three-putting for bogey, and had a nervous wait for Singh - who was two groups back - to finish. But the Fijian needed a birdie at the last to force a play-off and missed his 20-foot putt to hand Furyk the title.

The 2003 US Open Champion earned $900,000 for his 13th PGA Tour victory.
