Jonas Blixt wins Greenbrier Classic

Jonas Blixt shot a final-round 67 to finish on 13-under-par and win the PGA Tour’s Greenbrier Classic by two shots at Old White TPC in West Virginia.

Blixt – who won his maiden PGA Tour title at last year’s Open – has now moved up 100 places to 39th in the FedEx Cup standings and earned a two-year PGA Tour exemption.

The young Swede had been struggling in 2013 – his previous best finish a tie for 11th at Colonial – but he showed no signs of rust in tough conditions on Sunday.

The leaders didn’t tee off until after 10pm UK time, thanks to heavy showers and warnings of electrical activity in the area.

Overnight leader Johnson Wagner made a steady start, but dropped shots at 11, 13 and 15 to open the door for Blixt.

The Swede, who turned in two-under-par, offset birdies at 10 and 12 with bogies at 11 and 13, but added another birdie at 16 to move two clear.

He parred home, and after Wagner and playing partner Jimmy Walker failed to birdie their last two holes, his victory was confirmed.

“It has been a bad year for me but I just pulled it off,” said Blixt, who also earned an invitation to next year’s Masters.

“I can’t believe it, I’m just really happy.

“It’s just so many dreams come true. It’s one week and the whole year just turns around. It’s really special.”

The Australian duo of Steven Bowditch and Matt Jones both returned final-round 68s to finish alongside Wagner and Walker in second place.
