Putters: Wilson Staff 8882 and Dornoch
Golf Monthly takes a look at the leading, cutting-edge design putters on the market, including the Nike METHOD 001, PING Wack-E iN and TaylorMade Rossa Kia Ma Imola 8
Wilson Staff 8882 putter, £69.95
Key technology: The milled, flat face of the Wilson Staff 8882 putter promotes consistent strike, while secondary grooves provide forward spin and reduced skid.
The Wilson 8882 has a classic head shape and traditional look. Although the grooves might help the ball roll consistently, this is definitely not for those who struggle on short putts. A sleek, classic putter that will catch the eye of traditionalists. No extra stability, so only for extremely confident putters.
Dornoch BD1 and LD1 putters, £169.99
Key technology: The Dornoch BD1 and LD1 putters are hand crafted by a former Royal Dornoch caddie in the same workshop where Donald Ross started life as an apprentice carpenter. Large cavity designs disperse weight to the perimeter to enlarge the sweet spot. The head weight, loft, lie and offset can all be customised on request.
We liked the firm feel off the face, ideal for year-round use. Both putters have classic shapes that will suit confident players. We also liked the feel and classic shape, however the styling lacks the appeal you would expect for almost £170.
