Sicilian Open golf betting guide

Back in Europe this week for the Sicilian Open, the first European Tour event to be staged on the island. It's not going to be easy to pick a winner this week but there are some big names supporting the event. Chris Wood starts as favourite at 16/1 and you can still claim your free £10 bet with Ladbrokes

Soren Hansen

Sicily becomes the 42nd different destination to play host to a European Tour event and whilst a host of stars are staying in Florida for the Tavistock Cup and/or preparing on the other side of the Pond for the US Masters, it promises to be an interesting few days in Sicily.

Even with the big names missing, there are some great ball strikers on show and players like Chris Wood, Richard Green, Gregory Havret, Danny Willett and Jeev Milkha Singh should all be in the mix on Sunday with their credentials.

That said, despite Wood's and Willett's potential, neither player has broken through to claim their first European Tour title yet and we see this as a tournament begging to be claimed by a more experienced pro, perhaps looking to get their game back on track.

That man has to be Soren Hansen. His form is not great but a couple of seasons ago in a field like this, he'd have been favourite. A man of his class should be contending and we're backing him to do so this week.

Alexander Noren had two shocking tournaments on the Desert Swing but did get us thinking at 40/1. Not as much as Simon Dyson though, available at the same price. Another player who's form has dipped but is good enough to turn it round.

So it's Hansen and Dyson this week. Two experienced European Tour players who we're backing to see off potential first-time winners such as Willett and Wood. We're keeping the stakes low, saving our pennies for the Masters just a few weeks away.
