The Players Championship: golf betting guide

Our tipster takes a look at the unofficial 5th Major at TPC Sawgrass and who he thinks will be doing well this week at The Players Championship

Rory Mcilroy

Let's make one thing very clear from the get go, predicting the winner at TPC Sawgrass is dreadfully difficult.

Not an overly long course it will really punish anyone wayward from tee or fairway, and really you want to go with people who just have a solid all-round game. Last year's winner Matt Kuchar is the best example of this.

Tiger Woods is back in the field this week and is the ridiculously short 7/1 and I can't justify backing him at that price.

Rory McIlroy at 16/1 with Ladbrokes Has seemingly put his early season woes behind him. Has made 6 cuts from 7 this year and has 3 top 10s, and at this price is a better bet than Tiger. You will not find Rory at much higher a price all year.

Lee Westwood at 25/1 with Ladbrokes Playing some superb golf currently, with three top 10s in his his last three starts. Not had amazing results at TPC Sawgrass but is certainly coming into decent form... a lot depends on his flat stick.

Brandt Snedeker at 40/1 with Ladbrokes Was particularly surprised to see Snedeker at this large a price. Was the world's best golfer at the start of the season and only a final round blip stopped him winning a Green Jacket this season.

Billy Horschel at 40/1 with Ladbrokes The in-form player on the PGA Tour with four top 10s in his last four starts including a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finish. His good all-round stats also point to him competing this week.

Kyle Stanley at 80/1 with Ladbrokes Having started the season poorly he is running into form with two top tens in as many weeks. Hasn't had much experience on the course, but a man in form none the less.

The Players Championship advised bets:

3pts each way on Rory McIlroy at 16/1 with Ladbrokes 2pts each way on Lee Westwood at 25/1 with Ladbrokes 2pts each way on Brandt Snedeker at 40/1 with Ladbrokes 2pts each way on Billy Horschel at 40/1 with Ladbrokes 1pt each way on  Kyle Stanley at 80/1 with Ladbrokes
