Under Armour ColdGear Reactor Hybrid ½ Zip Review - We try out Under Armour latest golf-specific mid layer out on the course
Under Armour ColdGear Reactor Hybrid ½ Zip Review
The Under Armour Reactor range is aimed at golfers looking for performance-driven products with modern, sporty styling for year-round play.
Under Armour’s ColdGear Reactor is said to respond to your climate and effort level, warming you up when you are less active, and cooling you down as you heat up to maintain the perfect level of warmth. The adaptive fabric traps warmth, while releasing excess heat and moisture so you stay comfortable, with no damp feeling.
How we tested
We tested both the half zip and the ColdGear Infrared Reactor Jacket (£125) over a number of rounds in a variety of temperatures.
The half-zip comes in a number of colour options and our white top brightened up our traditionally dull winter attire. It’s interesting that you can see and feel the Reactor technology inside the fabric, especially when held up to the light. This won’t please everyone, but most will see the benefit in the technology overrides any qualms with the fact it is visible.
For such a thin layer, we were impressed with how warm this kept us on cold days. It also makes it easier to add a layer on top without restricting the swing with excess bulk.
It fits well – it is snug in all the right areas without feeling tight, assisted by the stretchy material and panels. It is also easy to slide on and the fabrics feels like it is high quality. We’ve played in it for around five rounds and washed it also and it looks and feels as good as new.
Under Armour are making waves in the apparel market and it’s no surprise given the innovation and high-quality products they produce for an affordable price. The Reactor garments we tested were clearly designed for golf, keeping us warm on the course without overheating, the stretch panels and flexible material allowing us to swing unrestricted and looking the part too. As an added bonus, the full-zip jacket would also look at home off the course too.
