Golf Monthly's Neil Tappin headed out to the course at West Hill to provide an in-depth Srixon UltiSoft review. Will this new two piece design make it into your bag?
Key Technology: This is the lowest compression and softest Srixon golf ball ever thanks to an innovative new core design that produces softer feel and maximises energy transfer at impact for more long game distance. This new low compression core also creates a higher launch angle and lower spin, resulting in straighter distance, which is further boosted by its 324 Speed Dimple pattern that reduces drag in flight to produce a penetrating trajectory. Designed specifically for golfers with low to mid swing speeds, it also features a thinner and soft Ionomer cover that enhances feel and control though the bag.
Full Srixon UltiSoft Review: We were pleased to hear that Srixon had plans to launch a brand new golf ball into the mid price-point end of the market. The new UltiSoft is aimed at the mid to high handicap player looking for a solid all round performer. In that regard the brand has certainly hit the brief. From long range, this offered a strong flight that actually didn’t seem to spin too much (our tester is a faster swinger so this golf ball would not necessarily be quite right for him). Around the greens you really notice that soft feel, especially off the putter face. The only downside was that we tested this ball along side the new Srixon AD333 Tour ball – and this one, with its urethane cover, offers spectacular performance for just four pounds more per dozen.
The Srixon UltiSoft however, will not disappoint. The slower swinger will certainly notice the long game benefits and the short game feel is soft off the face, if lacking a little spin relative to more expensive options.
Will Suit: Premium golf balls are expensive and if you’re looking for genuine performance without the hefty price-tag, the Srixon UltiSoft is well worth testing.
A cracking addition to the golf ball market, the Srixon UltiSoft is a very impressive all-round performer with a focus on short game feel.
