1) Shaft options: four stock shafts have different performance characteristics. They are the Mitsubishi Diamana +Plus White 72 (low launch), Mitsubishi Diamana +Plus Blue 62 (mid launch), Aldila RIP Phenom 70 (low-mid launch), Mitsubishi Titleist Bassara W 50 (higher launch).
2) Grip: the Titleist Tour Velvet 360-degree rubber grip works well with the club’s adjustability and offers great feel.
3) Adjustability: the SureFit Tour hosel, first seen in the 910D2, remains and allows loft and lie to be set independently. This means the flight can be made higher or lower, as well as with more draw or fade bias.
4) Head design: a new face, which gets thinner as it moves away from the centre, is designed to improve ball speeds on shots that miss the middle of the club. A new sole weight optimises the centre of gravity to boost speed and forgiveness.
5) Shelf appeal: subtle visual changes have been made compared to the 910D2 model, but the classic Titleist driver shape and styling remain, meaning it will appeal to many.
6) Address: the classic pear-shaped head is 460cc, and slightly bigger than the 913D3. It still looks great at address, though, and is more confidence inspiring than some might expect from Titleist.
7) Flight: excellent adjustability, combined with a wide range of shaft options, means that with a proper fitting you can find any flight you desire. The stock offerings produce very different flights, so it’s worth being fitted.
8) Distance: the new face design and weighting in the head produced slightly longer drives from the middle than a 910 driver of similar specifications.
9) Forgiveness: this is one of the biggest changes compared to the 910D2 driver. Shots from the heel and toe still produce impressive results. The most forgiving model Titleist has ever made really broadens the appeal to golfers of all abilities.
10) Impact sound: another impressive improvement, thanks to a more powerful note, particularly on shots that
miss the centre of the club. This also helps
to inspire more confidence.
PGA Pro verdict - Top 25 coach The long-awaited 913D2 is superb. It gave a great launch and feel, without losing any of the 910’s plus points. It produced fast ball speeds at impact, while retaining the feel of control when hitting both a fade and a draw. This driver will be hard to surpass, and with its tuning and fitting capabilities, it could be the product of 2013.
