Each head is handcrafted to order. Weights are placed in specific places in the head to help square the face at impact. The sole and crown are made from titanium, while Honma engineers say that the deep Dual Fusion clubface enlarges the sweet spot to improve the forgiveness on offer.
Will suit: Accomplished strikers of the ball looking to shape shots off the tee… and those with a substantial budget!
GM verdict: This high-quality design, with a timeless look at address, will appeal to many. The 455cc head looks smaller than it actually is, while the very deep face produces an outstanding flight on shots that find the middle. Those capable of shaping the ball will love the workability it provides. But... unbelievably, this is the entry price point in the Honma driver range. Golfers can opt for different grades of specs, which feature increasing levels of materials such as platinum and gold. The majority of golfers will struggle to justify the very high price tag. PGA pro verdict: The classy, traditionally shaped head gives the World Tour real appeal both in the bag and at address. The smaller head makes this product more workable for the accomplished player. Its impact sound was, however, slightly muted, but this gave the feeling of a more solid and stronger feel in the hitting area. I was able to work this driver very easily, especially when testing it in windy conditions. This isn't a driver for higher handicappers, though. It will suit those who have established reasonable consistency, and who wish to enhance their skill level.
