Graeme McDowell made the headlines after winning the US Open in June 2010. He finished on Even Par after the four days of action, one shot ahead of France’s Gregory Havret. Victory at Pebble Beach ensured McDowell became Europe’s first US champion for 40 years.

The Portrush native became the first Northern Irishman to win a major since Fred Daly won the open back in 1947 at Hoylake. He also became the first player from the United Kingdom to win a major since Paul Lawrie’s victory at Carnoustie in the Open in 1999.

2010 carried on in the same fashion for McDowell after carrying Europe over the line in the Ryder Cup. In the Celtic Manor Resort Classic, his 3&1 victory over Hunter Mahan gave Europe a remarkable 14 ½ to 13 ½ victory over the United States to regain the trophy.

McDowell made his Ryder Cup debut in 2008 at Valhalla in a 16 ½ to 11 ½ defeat to the Americans but impressed as one of Nick Faldo’s wildcards. As a result, McDowell has played in three more Ryder Cups, winning two of them.

Just a few weeks back, McDowell won the OHL Classic at Mayakoba, edging out Russell Knox and Jason Bohn in a play-off. McDowell confirmed victory on the first extra hole to knock in a birdie to clinch his first win since the French Open last July. McDowell will be eager to take this impressive form into the new year.
