Irishman Shane Lowry completed a momentous win at Royal Portrush collecting his first Major win at the 2019 Open Championship. Holding a four-shot lead over Tommy Fleetwood on the final day, Lowry dealt with tough conditions brilliantly to shoot a round of one-over par whilst all his rivals chasing him down struggled.
The pressure was on Lowry and his Irish counterparts all week as this was the first time The Open had been played on the island for 68 years, but he proved fearless playing some sublime golf all week, including a 63 on the Saturday.
An immensely popular winner we have scoured the depths of social media to see how it reacted to the win and we start with Irish President Michael D Higgins who congratulated Lowry;
From the world of golf Rory McIlroy put a picture on Instagram of a much younger Lowry and himself;
South African legendary golfer Gary Player tweeted;
