1962 - Arnold Palmer - 276 (-12)

The King won the Open for the second year in a row by six shots from Australia's Kel Nagle who was the only other man under par. It was Palmer's sixth major out of seven. His score of 276 was a new record, beating the previous best score of 278.

Weiskopf went wire-to-wire to win his only major championship at Troon in 1973, just months after the death of his father. The long-hitting American, who was nicknamed 'Towering Inferno' for his height and occasional bad temper, matched Arnold Palmer's Open record of 276.

Watson won his fourth of five Open Championships at Troon in 82 for his second-straight major after winning the US Open at Pebble Beach. He beat Peter Oosterhuis and Nick Price by a single stroke.

The Calc beat the Aussie pair of Greg Norman and Wayne Grady in the first ever four-hole aggregate play-off. Norman shot a course-record 64. The Great White Shark was tied with Calcavecchia coming down the final play-off hole but found two bunkers and then went out of bounds to hand the American the title.

The relatively unknown Todd Hamilton became the sixth straight American to win at Troon by beating Ernie Els in a four hole play-off. The hybrid chip/bump and run was essentially born from Hamilton's use of his Sonartec which he seemingly hit to tap-in range every time he missed a green.
