Matt Every secures maiden Masters berth

Matt Every has become the latest player to secure his place in the Masters Tournament following his victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Every, 30, took advantage of Adam Scott’s poor final round and compiled a two-under-par 70 to claim his first PGA Tour title.

The American, who has been in good form over the past couple of months, finished one shot clear of 2011 PGA Champion Keegan Bradley.

Every will be making his first Masters appearance and his first start in a major championship when he tees it up at Augusta on April 10.

There are at least two more spaces available for the 2014 Masters Tournament: the winners of the Valero Texas Open and Shell Houston Open, if they haven’t already qualified, plus those who force their way into the world’s top 50 between now and the week prior to the Masters.

As it stands, 94 players have secured their places in the 2014 Masters.

Some 103 players teed it up at the 1963 Masters – the largest figure in tournament history.
