A guide to hole 2 at Whistling Straits, called Cross Country.
Whistling Straits hole by hole guide: hole 2 – Cross Country / 593 yards / Par 5
A large cluster of dunes down the right of the fairway means the ideal drive is down the left half to ensure you can see the green on your second shot. To find the green in two you will need to negotiate a pot bunker 35 yards short of the green and large bunkers that run up the left side of the run in to the green. If you decide to go for this green in three, then there is a huge swail right of the green catching any wayward shots.
Henrik Stenson won’t need any reminding as to what happened to him on Cross Country at the 2010 USPGA Championship. The formidable Swede made an astonishing 8 on this par 5 during his first round to go with his double-bogeyed first hole. Stenson would go on to make four more bogeys in a round of +8. Unsurprisingly, he didn’t make the cut, even after an improved second round of +3. If a player of Stenson’s calibre can find trouble on Cross Country, anyone could come unstuck.
