Daniel Gaunt wins opening 66 Pro Tour event

Daniel Gaunt of Burhill Golf Club secured victory in the 66 Pro Tour Series' season opener at the Princes Golf Club, edging out Callum Scott and Rob McGuirk in a sudden death playoff.

The Princes course, which will host a 2011 Open Qualifying  event, is over 7000 yards in length and it unsurprisingly proved a tough test for the 66 Pro Tour's best golfers, with only Gaunt, Scott (Wildwood Golf Club) and McGuirk (Princes Golf Club) managing to match the par of 72.

Gaunt's par-4 on the first playoff hole was good enough to take the title  and move him to the top of the 66 Pro Tour Order of Merit.

The top 66 of the Pro Tour Order of Merit will qualify for the Tour Final to be held at Surrey's Walton Heath Golf Club, which will feature a first prize of £10,000.

The 66 Pro Tour follows a one-day format and its next event will be played at Purdis Heath Golf Club, Ipswich on May 12.

Further information can be found on the Tour's website, 66protour.com or through phoning the Tour on 01628 566250. Final Leaderboard
