The Callaway FT-9 driver, not due for launch until February 15, was on show at the Qatar Masters with no fewer than 18 players teeing up with the new piece of gear – among them a certain Ernie Els.

World No.12 Els carded a first round 70 with the new driver at the Race to Dubai’s Qatar Masters.

Fellow professionals Niclas Fasth and Thomas Bjorn also carded respectable first round scores with their new Callaway FT-9 drivers, but former US Open winner Michael Campbell was forced to retire.

The Callaway FT-9 driver is the most used driver model in play at the Doha Golf Club, who are hosting the second leg of the ‘Gulf Swing’ following last week’s Abu Dhabi Golf Championship and the Dubai Desert Classic to come.

Neil Howie, president of Callaway Golf Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), commented: “This obvious endorsement of the new FT-9 from European Tour professionals demonstrates the benefits players are finding by using the club.

“We’re confident these benefits will help club players too when it is launched on February 15.”
