Lumine Golf Club has begun its ambitious quest to become one of Europe’s premier golf and leisure developments in impressive style.
Managed by Troon Golf, the resort played host to the PGAs of Europe Fourball Championship over two-days of fierce competition amongst leading professionals from around Europe.
Just south of Barcelona, in the heart of the Costa Dorada, Lumine offers 45 holes to a world class standard.
Golf legend Greg Norman designed the signature Lakes Course, on which the PGAs of Europe Fourball Championship was played. Plans are now afoot to double the size of field for the event in 2013 by taking advantage of the challenging Hills Course.
The Lakes Course is located between the wetlands of the area and as such is blessed with native flora and fauna. The course offers a serious challenge to golfers with its links-style design with a par of 71. As the name would suggest, there’s plenty of water your ball can disappear into and the flatter land, on which the course is set, means the wind poses a serious threat around this layout.
The Hills Course is situated between rolling hills and offers the most spectacular views of the Mediterranean. Near Cape Salou, golfers play through pine forest as well as olive and carob tree plantations.
Completing the 45-hole resort is the 9-hole Ruins Course, which is set spectacularly among local Roman ruins. Also a Greg Norman design, it offers an enjoyable challenge over its par 34 layout.
Away from the golf, the resort has a number of restaurants and bars for much needed refreshment after a hard day on the course. Lumine’s Beach Club allows visitors the chance to unwind and relax in its various fresh-water and sea-water swimming pools.
The local area also offers plenty to do, the town of Tarragona has over 2000 years of history with Roman ruins still standing in the town and was recently declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Calle Carlsson, general manager of Lumine Mediterranea Beach & Golf Community, said: “Golf was the first fully functional amenity available here at Lumine and is central to our plans moving forward.
“With a host of other openings and amenities set to be unveiled throughout 2012, we are 100% focussed on becoming one of the most comprehensive and desirable leisure facilities on the continent.”
