James Mason checks out Florida golf and discovers a region that contains a superb array of courses

Florida Golf

I remember the first time I went to Florida, it was to take my two daughters to Disney with my partner and her daughter.

What I had secretly been doing was checking out golf courses that I could sneak off and play while they screamed their collective heads off on Space Mountain and the Tower of Terror!!

Back in 2000 it wasn't as easy to search for courses and read online reviews, or to watch videos of different tracks or check out photos etc.

Back then it was a matter of finding where the nearest PGA Tour tournament had been played and plan my route from my hotel to the course.

You had to just turn up and pay the green fee that was asked, no going online finding cheap green fees or deals.

Together with planetgolfreview.com we bring you eight course reviews, some within the Kissimmee area, others a couple of hours drive away and a few courses around the Fort Myers area.

These reviews include where to stay and play and each course has a video to give you a feel of the course, these along with images give you a good idea of what type of course you will be playing once you arrive on the tee.

There is also information on places to stay, eat and also some off course activities if you want to get away from the Disney attractions.

I think for most British and Irish golfers, Florida has always been synonymous with lush green fairways, lots of water/lakes, fast greens and the sun on your back.

We have included some of those types of courses in this snapshot, but there are also some stunning inland links courses at Streamsong and courses right on the Gulf at Gasparilla.

If like me, back in 2000, you wanted to sneak off and get a few holes in - today with our guide it doesn't have to be a guessing game, and if you are going as part of a golf tour or with your partner, you will find everything you need to know.

I am sure like me you will have a fantastic time and thanks to the internet it's not a guessing game anymore.
