Simon Khan gets US Open invite
England's Simon Khan has received a late call-up to play in next week's US Open at Pebble Beach
England's Simon Khan has received a late call-up to play in next week's US Open at Pebble Beach.
Khan's victory in the European Tour's flagship event, the BMW Championship at Wentworth, three weeks ago unfortunately did not earn him a place in the starting field for this year's second Major, as he proceeded to lose in a six-man qualifying play-off the following day at Walton Heath.
But Khan comes in as first reserve because Justin Rose, who was victorious in Ohio at the Memorial Tournament on Sunday, needed to have won at least one other PGA Tour event in the past year to be given an exemption.
Khan, who turns 38 the day before the championship, had already made provisional plans to travel to California in the hope of somebody pulling out.
The Essex golfer's call-up completes a remarkable turn of events, considering just three days before an invitation to Wentworth, Khan was placed at 471st in the world.
