Westwood paired with Woods and Els for US Open

Recent St Jude Classic winner Lee Westwood has been paired with Tiger Woods and Ernie Els for the first two rounds of the US Open.

While Westwood will be looking to claim his first US Open - and first Major - world number one Woods will be bidding for his fourth and Els his third.

The group will be the spotlight for most media attention for Thursday and Friday as Woods returns to the scene of his historic victory in 2000 when he blitzed Pebble Beach with a 12-under-par total.

Els has enjoyed a couple of victories earlier in the year at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the WGC-CA Championship, but the man in form in world golf is undoubtedly Westwood.

As well as winning the St Jude Classic, the Englishman has risen to number three in the world and has claimed top three finishes in his last three Majors.

Elsewhere in the US Open draw, many fans will flock to another tasty three-ball as Masters champion Phil Mickelson, three-time Major winner Padraig Harrington and last year's USPGA champion Y.E Yang tee it up together for the first two days.

Ian Poulter will play with Yuta Ikeda and Henrik Stenson, while Sergio Garcia, Steve Stricker and Paul Casey will enjoy each other's company before the half-way cut.
