Cobra Fly-Z irons revealed

Cobra has unveiled two new Fly-Z irons to coincide with the launch of its Fly-Z drivers and Fly-Z fairways and hybrids

Cobra has unveiled two new Fly-Z irons to coincide with the launch of its Fly-Z drivers and Fly-Z fairways and hybrids.

As seen in the Fly-Z woods, Fly-Z irons feature Speed Channels to deliver faster ball speeds and, therefore, increased distances.

This is achieved through slots positioned behind the face and on the sole of the clubs to improve flex and spring at impact.

A Thermoplastic Urethane insert behind the impact zone also dampens vibrations to improve feel, while a deep cavity undercut, coupled with heel and toe weighting, offer improved forgiveness.

Fly-Z irons come in black, but are also available in custom white, blue, orange and red colour schemes.

The stock sets are 4-PW in steel (£549) and 5-PW in graphite (£649) with Matrix Graphite shafts.

The Fly-Z XL irons, meanwhile, are oversized yet traditionally shaped.

Designed to offer confidence at address for the game-improver, they feature a dual-hollow cavity design and a hollow construction (below).

The result is a low and deep centre of gravity - which makes it easier to launch the ball higher - and a thinner face, which combines with the Speed Channel to boost distance.

Progessive offset helps promote a draw, while undercut cavities in the 9 iron and wedge help promote feel and control.

The Fly-Z XL irons come in a stock set of 5-GW, in stiff or regular flexes, with an RRP of £399 (steel).

They will be available from November 14, 2014, and the Fly-Z irons hit shelves in January 2015.
