Nike Lunar Control 4 shoe review

If you’re going to swing the club as fast as Rory McIlroy, you need to be wearing a pair of golf shoes that offers stability and grip combined with comfort. Nike say the new Lunar Control shoes will do just that. In fact, McIlroy has been working on the design for a number of years and sported them on the course for the first time earlier this year.

The stability comes from an external heel counter, which locks the foot in place during the swing preventing unnecessary movement. Secondary loop that house the lace system, something Nike call Dynamic Flywire, wraps and secures the mid section of the foot.

Another new feature of the new Nike Lunar Control 4 shoes is the split tongue, which Nike say fits more snugly to the ankle and provides relief in this area while walking.

We’ve been testing this shoe out on the course for a number of weeks and have been impressed with the overall performance and style on offer.

Stability is no doubt one of the shoes strongest attributes but there are some flexible elements to the outsole which provide some movement, allowing you to use the ground and get the most out of the seven cleats.

Overall the shoes are very comfortable to wear - they feel lightweight and the material is soft, even on long undulating courses we had no complaints.

The styling, specifically the large Nike Swoosh on the toe section, may divide opinion but there’s no question it adds to the shelf appeal and we didn’t find it to be distracting, more eye-catching for the right reasons.

All in all, this shoe is certainly one worth considering if you prefer a modern look to your footwear and prioritise stability and structure combined with comfort.

The Nike Lunar Control 4 golf shoes are available in three colourways for men (black/white, white/wolf grey, white/bright crimson) and three for women (black/white, white/wolf grey, pure platinum/bright crimson).

The Nike Lunar Control 4 golf shoes have an RRP of £130 and are available from nike.com/golf.
