Peter Uihlein is the son of Wally Uihlein, one of the most powerful figures in golf. As Chairman and CEO of Acushnet, he oversees the Titleist and FootJoy brands.

Peter’s mother, Tina, was an amateur of some distinction winning the 1974 Middle Atlantic Girls Junior Championship.

Add to that his grandfather who was a professional for 50 years and an uncle who won the Maryland State Open Championship as both an amateur and professional, and as far as golfing stock goes, they don’t come much stronger than this.

Uihlein's accolades to date are listed below.

  • Named Player of the Year by the American Junior Golf Association in 2005 and 2007, joining Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson as one of only five boys to have won the accolade more than once
  • Wins four points from four on debut in the 2009 Walker Cup after an inauspicious freshman year at the University of Oklahoma
  • Defeats David Chung 4&2 in the final of the 2010 US Amateur on his 21st birthday, three months after becoming the world’s leading amateur
  • Turns professional in December 2011 and starts Challenge Tour life in India in January 2012. Notches six top 10s and finishes the season 26th on the Money List.
  • Finishes second at the ISPs Handa Wales Open and loses to David Howell in a play-off at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship
  • Earns more than €1.3m before the season-ending DP World Tour Championship, good enough for 12th place in the Race to Dubai standings
